The Washington State Department of Agriculture has been serving the state for more than 100 years. ABOUT THE POSITION:
This position works within the Application Development IT group and primarily is responsible for creating, enhancing, and maintaining, software solutions for all business units within the agency. The Entry Application Developer takes a conceptual system plan (provided by a Journey/Senior Application Developer) and with the help of the Journey/Senior Application Developer, turns it into a detailed application development effort (System Development Life Cycle - SDLC): design, develop, test, and implement) for business systems within the agency.
This entry level software developer must have current software development skills and experience, using the latest techniques and business best practices, and will assist the Application Developers with the technical challenges and issues this team faces - covering both software applications and data management.

Duties

  • Designs/develops business applications, and performs data conversion, system testing, user acceptance testing and implementation of applications for the Agency.
  • Designs specialized interfaces, file transfers, data gathering and processes to collect and evaluate data.
  • Responsible for administering, developing and/or utilizing tools and utilities in support of assigned systems.
  • Provide escalated support to the service desk when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science; or two years of IT work experience including 1 year as an entry level or equivalent that includes experience in business requirements or high level designs for business software applications.
  • Knowledge and application of techniques for requirements gathering and writing high-level designs.
  • Understanding of user interface design.
  • Excellent understanding of programming logic and database structure/processing.
  • Technical knowledge of and experience in application design.
  • Technical knowledge of and experience working with: Microsoft Visual Studio 2010/2012, Dot.Net ASPX, C#, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2/2012

Desired:
  • Technical knowledge and working experience with: SQL Server 2012/2013, Angular JS, Visual Basic, jQuery, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, AJAX, Web Services, Crystal Report, Project Management, Project Estimates, Object Oriented Programming
