(Peer Specialist Trainee)

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Temporary Exempt: This position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer, and the duration of the position shall not exceed 9 months.
LOCATION: 1305 Evans Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94124
SHIFT: Monday – Friday 8:30am-5pm with some evenings and weekends
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: The Department of Public Health’s (DPH) Lifting and Empowering Generations of Adults, Children and Youth (L.E.G.A.C.Y.) is accepting applications for one (1) full-time position in class 9924 Public Service Aide as a Peer Specialist Trainee.
The Peer Specialist Trainee will work at L.E.G.A.C.Y. providing peer-to-peer support to youth & their families under the supervision and guidance of the Youth Development Team Coordinator. The Trainee will gain hands-on experience working with families and youth involved in one or more of the major children serving systems such as Human Services Agency, Juvenile Justice Department, Community Behavioral Health and/or Special Education System. The Peer Specialist Trainee will assist youth and young adults with navigation and advocacy of these systems. L.E.G.A.C.Y. seeks to create a system of care through which children, youth and families with emotional or behavioral challenges will be identified, assessed and supported through a continuum of flexible and supportive services.
The Peer Specialist Trainee will attend instructional or other training programs, which requires responsibility for following instructions, learning and adhering to existing policies and procedures and maintaining simple records of work completed. The Trainee will develop skills through exposure and training in the following activities:
The 9924 Public Service Aide, Peer Specialist Trainee, also performs other related duties.
NOTE: The qualified applicant pool may be used to fill other positions located at different locations in the next six months.
One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40 hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
