Government Relations Manager The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco has a fantastic opportunity for a Government Relations Manager (Government Affairs Manager) to join our Public Affairs team. Our Public Affairs team builds respect and trust in the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco through innovative dialogue with our external stakeholders and communicates the work our Bank performs on behalf of the communities we serve. As our Government Relations Manager, you will manage, coordinate and lead government relations and issues management initiatives for the Bank and serve as the Bank’s liaison to the Federal Reserve System (FRS) government relations community. Your expertise in developing and handling a variety of stakeholder relationships is critical. You will work with the Bank’s leadership to set strategic objectives and use your contacts and extensive knowledge of stakeholders’ needs and preferences to increase communication effectiveness and impact. You will lead the Bank’s efforts to prepare and connect our leaders and experts with public policymakers to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the Federal Reserve System. You will play a key role in increasing the public’s understanding and trust of the FRBSF and the Federal Reserve System. Essential responsibilities:
  • You will craft and implement near and long-term strategic external affairs goals, strategies, and tactics for engagement with federal, state, and local public and private sector partners.
  • Monitor the external environment and be an internal advisor and external champion for the Bank, briefing key leaders on proposed legislation that could impact the FRBSF/FRS’s ability to carry out its public service mission.
  • Craft creative, channel-appropriate communications to influence and inform partners’ perspective and advance the mission of the Bank.
  • Support internal partners and Public Affairs colleagues in their communications and outreach activities.
  • Craft benchmarks and standards that will measure the impact of partner engagement initiatives and provide reports and analytics on external outreach, issues management tracking and public perception.
  • Represent the Bank externally and support executives in public appearances and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Promote and maintain effective relationships with civic, business, academic and other connected influencers. Requirements:
  • You have 8+ years’ experience in government relations and issues management, including experience as a people manager.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, political science or a related field or equivalent experience is required; advanced degree desirable.
  • Ability to synthesize complex streams of information and interpret complex reputational issues.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
  • You are collaborative, work well with others, and can exist comfortably in a team environment. You have a demonstrated ability to coach and motivate others.
  • U.S. Citizenship or a Green Card Holder with the intent to become a U.S. Citizen is required.
  • Travel estimated at 20-30%.
