In this role, you will integrate STEM activities into your early childhood education curriculum with an emphasis on the application of real-life situations by using hands-on, developmentally appropriate materials and activities. As a STEM early childhood educator, you will: Capitalize on small, daily moments to introduce STEM topics. Mealtimes, for example, are an ideal time to teach math concepts, such as half, more, and equal Integrate STEM activities into your literacy curriculum. For example, while reading the folk tale, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, you might make bridges out of blocks or other materials. Perhaps you'll study goats and chart the differences between real goats and "story" goats Observe the natural world while you're outdoors Use open-ended questions to guide inquiry and exploration. "What" questions, such as, "What do you think will happen…?" or "What could we use to make…?" work well because they have no right answer. Such questions foster an atmosphere of acceptance, curiosity, and trust. Listen carefully to children's questions. Use their interests as a springboard for future inquiries or projects Use a variety of materials and activities to teach STEM concepts, including children's books, art materials, Internet resources, long-term projects, and learning centers Document STEM learning activities through charts, journals, photos, and drawings Job Requirements Job Requirements: Minimum age of 18 Must have bachelor's degree in related field with at least 24 ECE/Child Development units completed Minimum of 1 year professional teaching experience Meet state educational licensing and additional center/school requirements Must pass company and state background checks A passion for child care and making a difference in the lives of young children Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Proficient in use of Apple products such as the Mac and iPad. Excellent knowledge and use of Apple's core software applications used in education (Pages, Numbers, Keynote, iMovie, GarageBand and Clips) as well as other education-related third party apps. Knowledge of the Apple Teacher program and related resources for developing a baseline proficiency of Apple products for teaching and learning. Exemplary use of digital resources across multiple curricular areas.
